THINKING BIBLICALLY TODAY

THIS BLOG ADDRESS THE QUESTION – WHY DO I NEED A BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW?

  • 1. No biblical worldview – you will believe in anything “When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they then become capable of believing in anything.” ― G.K. Chesterton
  • 2. No biblical worlview – Leads to a multitude of standards and beliefs. Where God and His word are not the standard then people will do whatever is right in their own eyes. Judg. 21:25   In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
  • 3. No Biblical worldview – People spiral down and are given over to an unfit mind to do those things which are not proper. Romans 1:18-32

Why should you read this Blog?

  1. I believe a biblical worldviw is necessary to ground us in Christ and keep our minds from being stripped away to evil.
  2. I believe it is necessary because with a biblical worldview it is possible to compare what the bible declares agaimst the great issues of our day.
  3. I believe it is necessary to have a biblical worldview as a foundation to successfully live Godly and faithfully in this life.

Chapters Genesis 1 to 3 are the foundation chapters for the rest of the bible.

In these chapter God has provided for us the 6 foundational elements of a biblical worldview. Seem below are the 6 foundational elements of a biblical worldview. These underpin the full biblical message concerning the glorious Gospel.

  1. God is/God created – Gen 1:1
  2. Man made in His image and given a purpose – Gen 1:26-27, Gen 1:29-30,
  3. God speaks to us – Gen 1: 29-30
  4. God makes the rules – Gen 2:15-17
  5. Man wants to be his own God and pays the price – Gen 3:1-7
  6. Man hides God finds. Salvation and Reconciliation is of the Lord.  – Gen 3:8-21

Gen 37 – 50 Joseph Overview
READ CHAPTER 37

Joseph was called by God, God’s providence was working in all the events of his life, God was with him, Joseph gives all the glory to God.
If you are a believer three of these things are also active in your live. God has called you, God is working in the circumstances of you life, God is with you every minute of every day. The question is are you like Joseph giving God the glory.

Called
The dreams:

  1. The brothers to bow before him: Gen 37:5-8
  2. The whole family to bow before him: Gen 37:9-11

Genesis 45:7–8:
And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. So it was not you who sent me here, but God. He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt.

Providence
The narrative highlights key “coincidences” that drive the plot:
• The Stranger: When Joseph is sent to find his brothers, he happens to get lost, but a stranger finds him and points him in the right direction.
• The Ishmaelites: Immediately after his brothers decide to sell him, an Ishmaelite/Midianite caravan happens to pass by heading to Egypt.
• Potiphar: Joseph happens to be sold to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, which places him at the center of Egyptian administration.
• The Prison Connection: After a false accusation lands Joseph in prison, he happens to be placed in the exact same block as Pharaoh’s disgraced cupbearer and baker.
• The Forgotten Promise: Years later, when Pharaoh has disturbing dreams, the cupbearer happens to remember the Hebrew youth who interpreted dreams in prison, leading to Joseph’s release.

God with you:
The Lord was with Joseph

Gen. 39:2 The LORD was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, and he was in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 His master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD caused all that he did to succeed in his hands.

Gen. 39:5 From the time that he made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; the blessing of the LORD was on all that he had, in house and field.

Gen. 39:21 But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

Gen. 39:23 The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was in Joseph’s charge, because the LORD was with him. And whatever he did, the LORD made it succeed.

Joseph give all glory to God:

Joseph credits God for all things (16x)

Gen. 39:9 He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?”

Gen. 40:8 They said to him, “We have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them.” And Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me.”

Gen. 41:16 Joseph answered Pharaoh, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer.”

Gen. 41:25 Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, “The dreams of Pharaoh are one; God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do.

Gen. 41:28 It is as I told Pharaoh; God has shown to Pharaoh what he is about to do.

Gen. 41:32 And the doubling of Pharaoh’s dream means that the thing is fixed by God, and God will shortly bring it about.

Gen. 41:38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find a man like this, in whom is the Spirit of God?” 39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has shown you all this, there is none so discerning and wise as you are.

Gen. 41:51 Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh. “For,” he said, “God has made me forget all my hardship and all my father’s house.” 52 The name of the second he called Ephraim, “For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.”

Gen. 42:18 On the third day Joseph said to them, “Do this and you will live, for I fear God:

Gen. 43:14 May God Almighty grant you mercy before the man, and may he send back your other brother and Benjamin. And as for me, if I am bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.”

Gen. 43:29 And he lifted up his eyes and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, and said, “Is this your youngest brother, of whom you spoke to me? God be gracious to you, my son!”

Gen. 45:5 And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.

Gen. 45:7 And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. 8 So it was not you who sent me here, but God. He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt. 9 Hurry and go up to my father and say to him, ‘Thus says your son Joseph, God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; do not tarry.

Gen. 48:9 Joseph said to his father, “They are my sons, whom God has given me here.” And he said, “Bring them to me, please, that I may bless them.”

Gen. 50:19 But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? 20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.

Gen. 50:24 And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but God will visit you and bring you up out of this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.” 25 Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.”
