Why a Biblical Worldview is necessary

Part 9A.  A Biblical Worldview causes us to live in Reality

– The actual world we live in – Romans 1:18-32

The first reason to have a Biblical World view is because the Bible teaches us about the world in which we live, work and walk around.  It grounds us in truth given to us from God and this allows us to correctly interpret the world around us. The person with a Biblical worldview will understand the world in which we really live. All other worldviews will tend to suppress the knowledge of God and therefore reject God.

We should not be surprised those who reject God end up performing all sorts of evil. Because as G.K. Chesterton says,  “When men chose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they then become capable of believing anything.”

Why does a Biblical worldview matter?  I propose worldview matters because the great evils of this world are a direct result of a godless worldview or at least a worldview that is antithetical at every point to the Biblical worldview.  In a Biblical worldview God is at the center where there is revealed God’s grace in salvation and reconciliation.  In a worldview which separates itself from God and His word the results are always evil and brings destruction.

In a Biblical Worldview we have:

  • We have God at the center
  • We worship God
  • We find truth
  • We have peace with God
  • We have redemption

Summary table the outcome of all non-biblical worldviews – Romans 1:18-32

Biblical Worldview –Gen 1-3Anthesis to a Biblical worldview – Romans 1:18-32
God is/God created – Gen 1:1 God at the centerBecome futile in our thoughts: Reject God – Suppress the truth about God – Romans 1:18-21 Man at the center
Made in His image and given a purpose – Gen 1:26-30 Men Worship God aloneBecome Fools: Reject being formed in His image – Exchanged image of God for image of corruptible man. Roman 1:22-23 Men Worship themselves
God speaks to us – Gen 1:29-30 What God speaks is trueBecome Idol worshippers: Reject the truth for a lie – Exchanged truth for a lie – Romans 1:24-25  Man lives in lies (also Gen 3:1-8)
God makes the rules – Gen 2:15-17 Obedience = Peace with GodReceive the penalty of their error: Reject Gods rules – Exchanged God’s rules for their own passions – Romans 1:26-27 Disobedience = War with God
Man wants to be his own God and pays the price – Gen 3:1-7Given over to unfit mind: Reject God and fail to acknowledge God – They did not acknowledge God – Romans 1:28
Salvation and Reconciliation is of the Lord.  Man hides God finds – Gen 3:8-21 There is RedemptionThe End result is Evil and Hatefulness – Leading to hate and being filled with all forms of unrighteousness and evil – Romans 1:29-32 Leads only to evil and hatefulness

Summary: We should not be surprised that the unbelieving world is so bent toward evil, the path to great evil is revealed to us in  Romans 1:18-32

  • You are either under grace and have peace with God – Romans 5:1
  • Or you’re living under God’s wrath with the result of being filled with hatred of God – Romans 1:18-19

Those without God and do not repent and believe live in a downward spiral toward evil. Unless they repent God will continue to release his hand little by little and allow the person to decline to the point of great evil.

But having a Biblical Worldview we live in the world as it really is and this worldview allows us to remain firm in the faith, while standing firm on the foundation of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. It keeps us from falling into hatred toward God and thus a continual and progressive spiral into more and more evil. Seeing reality from a biblical worldview places God at the center of everything.  So, we see the world as it really is.
